Study for mastery

My work at the moment is a series of ‘studies’—studies of domestic pursuits and paraphernalia, and studies that are experiments with colour and texture and technique.

Wikipedia has a good definition of an artist’s study. A study is a preliminary ‘sketch’ for  a finished piece. Perhaps more importantly a study assists the artist’s journey of discovery, leading to resolution of technique or image in finished pieces. This phase of ‘study’ for me is really a merry manipulation of materials. It’s a great way to entertain myself!

The materials I am using include:

  • oils on canvas and paper/board
  • knitted and felted fabrics
  • digital textures, patterns, brushes and blends
  • found objects
  • endless combinations of the above!
